Sono Con 2019 Official Cosplay Contest
Saturday, December 14 @ 5pm on the Main Stage

Sono Con Official Cosplay Contest Summary

Pre-registration IS REQUIRED by 4pm with the cosplay guests (Martha Howard / Little Red Fox Cosplay - Organizer) at their booths the day of the event!

Broken into Categories

  • Children (12 and under)
  • Adult (13 and older, individual, all skill levels)
  • Groups (all ages and skill levels, 2 or more people)

Prejudging Criteria

All prejudging is done with cosplay guests at their booths at entry/sign-up throughout the day by 4pm before the contest.

Judges can be rotated in and out of prejudging as needed, one main judge required to be present at each prejudging.

Contestants should be in costume and be prepared to talk about construction. Reference pictures are not required, but are encouraged especially for more obscure cosplays. If the contestant is modeling a costume, the maker should be present to answer at prejudging, and the maker is the contestant, not the model.

  1. Percentage of the costume that is handmade
  2. Attention to detail
  3. Quality
  4. Overall appearance
  5. Likeness to the character
  6. Maneuverability / functionality
  7. Stage presence / crowd appeal

Judges

6 main judges & organizer to sit in at the contest – cosplay guests

Additional prejudging judges may be pulled as needed per cosplay guests’ needs

Contest

Begins on the Main Stage at 5pm on Saturday – all entries in any category

Go by Groups

Judges have reference pictures (where applicable) as well as prejudging notes and score. The prejudging score is the score used to determine the winner. Official judges make an additional judges choice award.

Photographer takes shots of each contestant as they take their turn on stage.

Sono Con Official Cosplay Contest Rules

  1. Contestants can only enter in one category, Individual or Group. Due to the unpredictable size of groups, a prize for each member cannot be guaranteed.
  2. All entries must be submitted before 4pm Saturday (Sono Con Official) with Little Red Fox Cosplay booth to be entered into the cosplay contest. The contests will begin at 5pm Saturday.
  3. A short skit is not required for participation, but is allowed. Please let us know if you have one when you sign-up at the Little Red Fox Cosplay booth.
  4. No nudity. No costume is no costume.
  5. No profanity allowed on stage. That includes messages on signs or clothes. Anyone who violates this may be disqualified from the competition.
  6. No political or religious statement during the catwalk. Anyone who violates this may be disqualified from the competition. Use your best judgment!
  7. Do not use any sort of projectile at all! Nothing must leave your person while you are on the catwalk. Anyone who violates this rule may be disqualified from the competition and may be asked to leave the convention area. Exceptions to this rule may be made at the discretion of the judges upon request when signing-up.
  8. No flashpots, explosive devices, or similar special effects are to be used. Anyone who violates this rule may be disqualified from the competition and may be asked to leave the convention area.
  9. All prop weapons must conform to the Sono Con Weapons Policy, which is as follows: All weapons must be non-working and peace bonded. No functioning projectile weapons – including water pistols, silly-string guns, and ping-pong pistols. Bladed weapons must be cased or sheathed at all times. No clowning around or showing off in the common areas. Any weapon used in an offensive manner will be confiscated. Anyone who violates this rule may be disqualified from the competition and may be asked to leave the convention area. We expect you to use good judgment; with your help, we can continue to allow peace-bonded weapons.
  10. To be judged for accuracy, a visual reference, preferably a front and back color photo on paper, can be turned in with your entry, but is not required. Electronic media (i.e. CDs) will not be accepted nor will bringing a laptop or video device (i.e. iPods) for judging. You may not be eligible for accuracy points if the judges are not familiar enough with your character. We like creativity so please be prepared to talk a little about your cosplay for our audience and our judges!
  11. All pre-judging will be done at entry sign-up, off-stage.
  12. Do not enter or exit the catwalk except at the designated points.
  13. Each contestant may only enter one costume into competition. A family may enter one individual or group AND a child, if applicable.
  14. Large elaborate costumes must be handled by the contestant and/or assistants the contestant brings to help.
  15. Our cosplay guests are AWESOME & here to HELP YOU! Feel free to ask them anything!
